A Chimney Cap for Woodland Hills Homes, at a Price You See First
An installed cap runs $155 to $635. Where yours lands depends on flue size, how many flues share the crown, and whether you want a single-flue cap or one that covers the whole top.

What the Visit Covers
A cap keeps rain off the damper, animals out of the flue and embers in. Installed, it runs $155 to $635 depending on flue size, how many flues share the crown, and whether you choose a single-flue or crown-mount cap. We measure, give you the exact figure, and check the crown and top tile underneath before fitting, so the new cap has something sound to hold.
Where Your Cap Falls in the $155 to $635 Range
The low end of the range is a stainless single-flue cap that clamps onto a standard clay flue tile on a one-story roof. The high end is a multi-flue or top-mount cap that covers the whole crown, sized to order for an odd-shaped chimney or a tall stack that needs extra ladder work. Most Woodland Hills ranch houses with one fireplace land near the lower half. Copper caps and decorative shrouds cost more and sit outside this range; we quote those separately if you want one. We measure the flue on the first visit and give you the exact figure before fitting, so you are not guessing from a range.
There is a real choice between a single-flue cap and a crown-mount cap. The single-flue cap is cheaper and does the job of keeping rain, animals and embers out of the flue. The crown-mount cap also keeps rain off the crown itself, which helps if the crown is already cracked and you want to put off recasting it. If the crown is sound, the cheaper cap is usually enough. If the crown is marginal, a crown-mount cap can be the smarter spend this year, with a crown repair later. We write both prices down so you can compare.
Why a Cap Is One Repair Not to Put Off in the Valley
Most of what we tell homeowners can wait. A missing cap is not on that list. Without one, rain falls straight down the flue onto the damper and the smoke shelf, rusting the damper and soaking the mortar. Birds and raccoons move in during spring. And in Woodland Hills, with brush on the hills to the south and west and Santa Ana winds most falls, the spark screen on a cap is what keeps embers from leaving the flue and landing on a roof or in dry brush. The Woolsey fire in 2018 burned close enough to the West Valley that most homeowners here do not need that explained.
Caps also wear out. Galvanized caps from the 1980s and 1990s rust through, and wind can lift a loose cap off its tile. When we replace a cap, we check the crown underneath and the condition of the top flue tile, because a new cap on a cracked tile will not stay put. If the tile needs work, you will get that as a separate line, with the cap price unchanged. A cap is one of the few chimney jobs that pays for itself quickly in repairs it prevents.

Chimney Cap Installation in Woodland Hills
Most Woodland Hills chimneys we price are single brick stacks on ranch houses that have had a roof or two replaced around them. The usual list is a tired crown, flashing held on by old sealant, and joints worn on the upper courses. Very few need everything at once, so the estimate is often split across two seasons.

Chimney Cap Installation in Burbank
Many Burbank homes still have their original brick chimney or an early factory-built fireplace. For the brick ones, the choice is usually between repointing the top few courses and rebuilding above the roofline, and we price both. For older factory-built units, we check that parts are still made before quoting a repair.

Chimney Cap Installation in Canoga Park
Canoga Park is mostly one-story tract and ranch houses with modest brick chimneys, which keeps access simple and repairs moderate in cost. The common jobs are a new cap, crown work and repointing the top few courses. Many owners here go to a gas insert instead of rebuilding an old firebox, and we price both.

Chimney Cap Installation in Encino
Encino houses often have two or three fireplaces and sometimes an outdoor fire feature, which makes a full set of repairs expensive at once. We write each fireplace up on its own lines, so you can do the one you use most this year and the guest room fireplace next year.

Chimney Cap Installation in Sherman Oaks
Sherman Oaks mixes brick chimneys on older ranch homes with factory-built fireplaces in condos and newer houses. The two need different repairs and different parts, so we identify the type before quoting. Hillside chimneys are often tall and exposed, and the estimate separates the work from the ladder or staging needed to reach it.

Chimney Cap Installation in Studio City
Studio City has two kinds of chimney job. On the flats, it is usually a one-story brick chimney with worn joints that can be repointed in a day. Up in the hills, access sets the price: a steep roof or a tall stack on a downhill lot can cost more to reach than to repair, and the written estimate shows that split.
